About

The name on my birth certificate is Lucy Weeks Ringle. The Lucy came from my mother and the Weeks came from family friend, Louisiana painter and bon vivant William Weeks Hall, whose friends also called him Weeks. Having two people share one name in a household is confusing and the double-Southern-name-thing, as in “Lucy Weeks,” was even more bewildering to some so I ditched the Lucy. No one ever gets to know Lucy. The TSA knows her. Blue Cross knows her. The IRS knows her. But my husband Bill, my daughter Sophie and anyone who knows me well calls me Weeks.
