Do-over
I recently gave someone a second chance to someone who had been driving me crazy for a long time. She had been annoying me because she was trying to do something new and was anxious about doing a good job. I made a joke about the tension that had been between us. We had a good laugh and realized we’d really like to be friends because we have a lot in common. Exposing yourself to people with a proven record of being destructive or hurtful isn’t a great idea. However, is there anything to be gained by being open to the possibility that maybe circumstances have changed or that person has changed? I think so. Especially if I were the one who had messed up.
“Exposing yourself to people with a proven record of being destructive or hurtful isn’t a great idea.” That’s exactly right. Have your words or actions hurt me time and time again? Then it will take a lot more than MY open mind to decide you are no longer toxic.
As you can guess, I have some experience with this…
