Being True
Wednesday is the day, according to the Scriptures, that Judas betrayed Jesus. It’s just so hard to understand. But here’s what I’ve decided the truth to be about betrayal. If your goal is to be a good person, betraying anyone will always be more hurtful to you than to the person you’ve betrayed. The opposite of betrayal is loyalty. Loyalty isn’t just to others. It’s to the person we aim to be. When we’re tempted to make a bad choice because we’re mad or hurt or tired or scared or frustrated, the greatest casualty is to our own souls because betraying others, as opposed to speaking honestly to them, never ends well.
