Next to the Kimchi, Words to Live By
I happened to be in a massive Korean supermarket this week. Along one wall of the store was a food court so Bill and I decided to eat lunch. Seated at the metal tables with plastic trays holding our food I noticed behind the counter a sign on the refrigerator next to the food inspection certificate. It was written in Chinese characters but was simple enough for me to read. The literal translation is “One day, one happiness.” I asked the man behind the counter if my translation was correct. In a thick Korean accent he said, “Yes, One happiness, each day. Sometimes it’s hard to do. But try to give one happiness to someone each day.” I didn’t know this expression but that has been to goal of this humble little blog. One happiness, each day.
I always enjoy your thoughtful posts Weeks, something to ponder, challenge, laugh or pray about, thanks for sharing “one day, one happiness ” ( and thanks too…today I am saying goodby to many people as I am retiring in a few weeks and this is my last big meeting…you just gave me a tag line!!!)

So as part of my my little good bye comments today I used “one day, one happiness” as my personal advice , noting it was a Korean proverb. So many people came up to me and thanked me for the wonderful reminder and at least 3 commented they were passing along in journals or blogs and Debra texted me later…it’s now on her white board. So you touched lots of folks today and for many days to come…one of those ripples in the water in the best of ways.

I look forward to your posts each morning, as it’s such a nice combination with my “mindfulness training” that I’ve started. I see the notification on my phone and rush to open it with anticipation of a message that will make my heart smile as much as my lips. Thank you, Weeks. (looking forward to saying HI in person on 3/16 in Appleton) Wendy
